When: September 8, 2019 — November 24, 2019
Two Identical Classes (both taught by Vinnie)
Class A: 9:20am — 10:30am
Class B: 10:55am—12:05pm
Where: Room W247
The letter to the churches in Galatia was one of the earliest Christian documents, and is vital in the encouragement of God’s people, as they follow the Messiah and understand the gospel. This class will spend 12-weeks studying Galatians, which has been a foundational book for Christians for centuries.
This class will be especially helpful for small groups that are participating in the sermon-based study, “We Are Free: A Study of Galatians” (the GHCC sermon series during the fall of 2019). We will be able to emphasize parts of the letter that might not get covered in the sermon, as well as to clarify (and expand) on what is preached from the pulpit. This class will be a great blessing to you (and your small group) as we engage in this study in community!

Text Books
While we technically don't have a "required" book, it would be very helpful to use two resources:
1. The Galatians Sermon-based Study Guide (produced by GHCC).
2. A commentary (we have suggested a few different ones below)
While we won't be going through the study guide week by week, there is a lot of helpful material provided by our study guide authors. Also, the book will provide the outline for the class (as we'll follow the sermon structure of Galatians). Books are available at GHCC beginning 8/25.
This is a technical commentary on Galatians. While no knowledge of Greek is necessary to read this book, the author (Moo) does engage with some of the Greek. This is a commentary that would be used at the college/seminary level.
This is a basic commentary from John Stott, with some intermediate ideas, but communicated at a fairly understandable level.
This is an applicational commentary from Tim Keller

Here is the text of Galatians for you to mark up and make observations
Read through the 2018 GHCC Campaign on Sola Fide. Pay particular attention to pages 54-55 (justification/righteousness).
Here is a free course offered by biblicaltraining.org, where Dr. Douglas Moo gave lectures at a graduate school through the book of Galatians. Here he discusses many of the interpretive issues that we come up against when reading this book. Watching these lectures is HIGHLY encouraged (although, these lectures may be challenging, as Moo is lecturing to a seminary-level class).

Check out this YouTube channel called "The Bible Project." They do a great job of setting the biblical story to creative images. This will serve as a good overview to any book of the Bible you might be studying (they are attempting to create videos for all 66 books).
